Default Winter engine temperatures

Is anyone else having trouble getting heat into their engines in this cold weather and keeping it there? I'm a little concerned it's taking a long time for my Hawk STI to get up to normal operating temperature (86C). I'm thinking of trying the partial radiator blanking method of reducing the coolant effect of the rad to aid temperature gain. I'm also thinking of dropping the oil from 10w/40 to a 5w/30 as the oil pressure is through the roof and, like the water temps, is taking ages to get to operating temperature.
Anyone got any comments?

My Blob certainly takes longer to get oil and water temp into it but it'll still get to 85-90C water temp within 7 minutes or so.

my car quickly comes up to temperature about town but on the open road is a different story with water and oil temps just nudging 80c. The thermostat opens at 78c so this is understandable. I use a 5w/40 for the winter.
