Does anyone know what the differences are between the WRX STI TYPE R 2DR V4 and the V5 ?

Cheers

phase 1/phase 2 engine.

different idle control, therefore different wiring looms, different blocks and inlet manifolds, hence different ecus, chance on version 5 of non forged pistons, different intercooler design on version 5, larger rear wing, version 5 front, clear headlights as opposed to cloudy headlights.

sure there is more, but main differene is phase 1 to ohase 2 engine.

phase 2 has thrust bearing of crankshaft i the middle instead of on the end in phase 1s!

Could be just a fluke, but I know more people with V5's that have blown than V4's :-(
Some say V5's are more prone to det/ping, but this could be just rumour.

Also V5's seem harder to remap (not sure why) just I know it's taken a lot of tuners a long time to come up with something. (PowerEngineering being one example).
