Default Rev counter signal

where does the rev counter get its signal from?

car runs like **** when at about 3k rpm, but noticed tonight the rev counter fluctuates quite rapid when at said rpm... thinking it could be a cam or crank sensor fault.

did i read some where that all cylinders dont use the same sensor to fire coils/injectors? ie cylinder 1 & 3 use crank sensor then 2 & 4 use cam sensor? or have i made that up?

95 wrx btw

Default

Rev counter gets its signal as an output from the ECU based on the crank/cam sensors.

The same sensors are used by the ECU to control ignition and fueling to all 4 cylinders.

Checked your coilpacks for cracks? They are a big cause of misfires especially when coming onto boost which is at ~3k. A misfire would cause a fluctuating RPM.
