Whats the best way to run/break in a rebuilt engine?
I didn't realise everyone had there own variation on how to run in a new build. The most common one and the way i thought it had to be done was run the first 1000miles on mineral oil with base map. Then after final remap switch to synthetic? But so many other ways Just wanted to see everyone elses thoughts and experience on this.
Few questions to those in the know...
Would like to know whats the best oil to use for running in?
What oil would you recommend after running in miles?
Also to the guys with 2.5 rebuild do you run oil coolers? as ive heard the oil heats up quicker on these?

in running in a new 2.5 with millers competition running in oil, changed at 50 miles, then 500, then at 1000 with a semi synth, then at 2000 fully synth and power map. dont use an oil cooler and usual oil temp is about 80 degrees cruising at about 3.5 bar pressure.

thats the way allan jefferies recommended, using standard oem filters everytime and the oil grade is 10-40. One other thing to add is i havent been running it in too gently ie pottering about with no boost, rev limit is set to 4k and it often sees upto 10psi of boost, its using no oil and sounds sweet as a nut at the mo.
