Default Panel Air filtre

I have a HKS induction kit fitted to my classic STI.

Standard air box is good for 400bhp with a good panel filter, after that people usually fit an induction kit as you need to remove the airbox when fitting a front mount.

As has already been said, an induction kit only becomes a positive benefit when your engine is producing more power than the standard parts can comfortably flow and/or when you are running a front mount intercooler (the two normally happen at about the same time).

Under these circumstances, the ECU would need mapping for whatever induction setup was chosen. Which brings me to your car. Has this cone been fitted for a reason or has it just been stuck on for the sake of it?

If the latter, you'd be better off with the standard airbox, induction tract and a panel filter (whether OE or a good aftermarket), for a number of different reasons, primarily airflow measurement accuracy as well as general reliability and serviceability. Search will tell you more.

Yeah source yourself a OE airbox and required pipework for your MY.

Filteration-wise, i would think the OE panel and specifically the STi unit are better than a HKS mushroom/cone. The KnN or Green panel will be as good as, if not better than OE.
Air flow and density wise, the OE box set up will provide the much needed denser/colder air than any engine bay mounted IK for obvious reasons.

Once again there will be next to nothing between the OE item, KnN or Green panel. The only real advantage with good quality aftermarket panels is the longevity.

No, there are at least two different set ups.

MY92=>96

and

MY97=>98

I presume the latter will be the one for you.
