I bought one of the cheaper ones for my old type r. Temps were identical on PFC commander before and after (comparing to an OE Subaru rad)
Not sure if all the cheap ones are the same but the one I bought was a weird material, sort of bakelite stuff. It also had pretty poor ridges where the end tanks were obviously made in 2 halves and sealed together. I made sure I trimmed these down and made it all smooth before fitting so the coolant hose had the best chance of sealing nicely.
I've just bought one of these £35 ones for my mrs' impreza yesterday, should be here tomorrow so will update with any quality concerns/issues.

Right, received the rad yesterday and fitted it this morning while servicing the mrs' car.
It was much better quality and finish than the last 'cheap' one I had (which was £100) didn't have the dodgy lips on it. It looked similar (the end tank plastic) to the original calsonic one. Even came with the metal top and bottom parts where the fan housings bolt on (last one I had didn't come with these)
Only fault I found (after filling with coolant) was it started to drip out of the drain tap, obviously made sure it was tight but it still started to drip. I removed the tap and there didn't appear to be any rubber seal on there so I removed the tap off the original rad and used the o ring from that and it all seemed fine.
Bargain really but worth checking the drain tap seal if you get one, no drama though if you just use your original o ring seal.
