are you sure you need to use the dawes device? i would just let the mines do the work. But also is the mines set to run uk super unleaded ? or you need octane booster etc to let the mines run correctly? as mentioned above some things like what i have mentioned may have the detramental effects

Quite. Did you buy this car pre-modified as above Benji, and/or has it been set up/checked by a competent mapper? The combination of bits there sounds a bit random and odd, and, as Tidgy suggests, unless you know it's running properly, it is also eminently possible that it is running rather improperly, even with the use of octane booster.

One would hope under these circumstances that the rolling road operators will be monitoring AFR and combustion and will be clued-in enough to shut it off if the numbers appear concerning.

It was a totally standard on purchase and i,ve modded it to that,
The reason for the dawes still on as it was fiited before the Ecu and there for just left on,
My friend is a mapper and he stuck his wideband and det cans on and said its a bit rich but not dangerous nor detting,
its pulling strong and not missing abit,
The mines ecu isnt set to use uk fuel so always run on v-power and using stp octane booster now and again(being honest around every 2-3 tanks ill put it in)

Without any slight to your friend, is he a known/respected mapper, with Subaru experience? In general Mines ECUs tend to be set up quite aggressively for Japanese market fuel. Would never recommend someone fit one to a car used in the UK.

Being honest is good as it means we can give you proper advice. However, putting in octane booster on an inconsistent basis is clearly not at all good, as you will presumably never have a solid idea of the concentration, and from what you are saying it sounds like there's none at all in there the majority of the time.

So when your friend put his det cans on, was this when you had V-Power *and* a good quantity of booster in the tank, or was it done on a "worst case scenario" basis (i.e unadulterated V-Power that had been hanging around a week or two)?

As what Split/Tidgy have said, unless you can monitor what the car is doing then dont run the ecu, the standard one will be better on 97 ron for which it is mapped, otherwise you can do some serious damage to your engine, even terminal, and by the sounds you dont have a knocklink/ks3 type det monitor, and 1 bottle of octane booster every 2-3 tanks is useless, it has to be in every tank to keep the concentration up.

It was v-power by itself, the night before £50 worth,
should i consider sticking my std 94 wrx ecu back in then?
i did buy a apexi power fc to be mapped that day but when we fitted it the ecu was dead i had been sold a dud one. so he lent me his mines he had kicking around from when his wrx was imported.

the mines ecu is known to be very aggressive with the timing, upping the boost mnualy without fueling and timing adjusting for it it very bad idea indeed.

you;ve also changed the fuel pressure as well, tbh i'd wait till RR and not drive it any more than you absolutly must aka to the mapping place, and keep it under 2k revs.

only way to sort it out is to rip the mines ecu off, take the daws off and fit a ESL board and get it mapped properly. Trying to DIY tune tends to end in things going bang and engines needing rebuilding

Headed up to surrey rolling road today,

managed 284.2bhp at 0.9bar.

Is this a good power?

i was thinking maybe nearer 300bhp,

will say tho charley is a top guy really enjoyed myself.

That's a good figure running only 0.9bar. It normally takes around c.1.1bar to get 280+ on a early WRX. It's prob your ported/wrapped harvey headers + 3" turbo-back system helping the peak bhp figure with only 0.9bar.

But as said, the most important thing is, was it checked with det cans to be safe i.e. no detting anywhere in the revrange?!

Pleased it all went well for you.

Did you make any changes to the 'mod list' in your OP or did you just go for it??

They are not bad numbers on a 16yo motor, i'd be happy at that with just 'bolt on' mods.

I take it Surry RR checked all your AFRs etc??

All is good then.

An ESL would have you make a bit more, but then you have other limiting factors, standard injectors and tiny tmic for starters.

Can you post your graph? Just for a look see.
