It depends what sort of power you are after. A TD05 will have a little more lag, but more of a kick. But you cant just fit it and forget about it, it will need a remap to work properly.

Its a good upgrade but as mentioned its not as easy as just changing them over. You will need a remap and probably injectors and fuel pump ( for starters )

Yes as above mate.

I have a polar performance ecu if you go with the TD05, You Wouldnt need a remap then but you would need to have full decat, td05, Uprated Panel filter and uprated fuel pump. I had these parts and the ecu fitted and got 276bhp from it. Its a v7 ecu for uk classic models (4 Plug).

will see if its worthwhile then or worth holding out for a few months and getting something better for more power and sell the one I have. Am getting a fmic and induction kit tommorow as part of my bigger plan it already has a full decat system fitted so a fuel pump injectors remap and a few other bits could I be looking at 300+ with that TD05 or would I need something else

There is no standard Subaru ecu for a 1997/98 (3 plug) that will run the correct fuel mixture and ignition timing for your engine when fitted with a TD05-16g turbo.

If you're planning on also fitting a FMIC and IK, then the only way to set it up correctly is a custom map on an aftermarket ecu such as a Simtek, PowerFC etc.

No, and there is no positive reason for fitting either an induction kit or an aftermarket intercooler as long as you are running the TD04 turbo, even assuming you were going to have the car mapped for them. The standard bits are better suited to the standard engine configuration (which is probably why Subaru fitted them in the first place).

Incidentally, all the parts you have bought appear to be from a 1996 or earlier car. As such, before considering fitting the turbo the first thing you will need to establish (and sort if necessary) is whether it is a right-angle or front entry unit.

If it's a right angle, you'll have to convert it to FE before it will fit your engine. As such you'll have to take a view on its condition before deciding whether it's worth the cost of conversion - let alone the four figure sum you're going to be spending on the aftermarket ECU etc.
