hi i have just bought a 1995 turbo 2000. i have noticed the off side wheel feels like it sometimes drifts from left to right? also when braking i can hear a creeking noise on the front?

i have had it on a ramp today and found no wheel/bearing play anywhere.
i did notice play in the driveshafts, off side just up and down slightly. nearside i can move a bit more and pull it in and out a bit. could this cause a wheel to feel like it sometimes has a mind of its own? is there usaully play in a driveshaft near the gearbox? the garage thinks it could be diff bearing? im unsure?
any help or advice would be great..
