Problems all over and very confused Sti 1994
Hi my name is Jay i have just joined the forum and really need some serious help. I have a 1994 (L) impreza wrx which we have just put a redtop Sti engine in. The car runs fine apart from when it boost and gets to about 5000 revs it splutters and struggles badly. The check engine light is also on. There are also some sort of sensors or vacums near were the drivers side shocker is and they have pipes on but not to sure were the pipes go and wondered if i take a picture would someone be able to help. I do need the first problem sorted first tho lol thanks.

top port with pipe coming off into the compressor cover nipple, middle to actuator and botom pipe bleeds back into inlet pipe. . You may have hair line cracks in you coil packs which are individually mounted on each spark plug or need new spark plugs would prob bet coil packs unless they have been changed due to age .
how to read fault codes .

Can we have a clue to what engine you put in there?
Phase 1, phase 1.5, phase 2, new age, 2ltr, 2.2ltr or 2.5ltr?
Just saying red top engine is meaningless unless we know what it is exactly.

I'll take a flyer at a Ph1.
Heres a pic of the Boost Control Solenoid and it's plumbing.
As per the link posted above, connect the two black diagnostic plugs and follow the process to read any codes. Post the codes on here along with any other relivent information and go from there.
ps Welcome to SNet.

The red circle indicates where the middle pipe goes onto the actuator.
The bottom pipe from the BCS goes to the large oval shaped black box in the air intake with the speech bubble on it.

not doubting that in any way. we all have to learn, BUT i find a lot of guys come on here looking advice on how to fix stuff as they won't take it to a specialist because of a fear of getting stitched up. now while a concern, i would suggest if they are afraid of maintenance costs then a subaru is maybe not not the right car for them.
buying a the car is not the problem as you well know. the bitch is the upkeep.

You need to have either a good mech/tech mind, or deep pockets. If mogging (wtf is mogging) modding, then both are required.

Im going to guess anything from a phase 1.5 onwards as they were the first to be "red top's" but still confusing, if the standard ecu is being used then the fuelling is going to be up the shoot as 380 v 440 cc injectors for anything classic phase 1.5 to phase 2, new age will be 550cc so really going to naff it up, probably one reason its running like a dog
OP, we need a picture of the engine, the phase 1.5's have the coil pack on top of the red inlet manifold (dead centre) the phase 2 have it offset to the right as you look at the inlet manifold, the new age dont have it on top but you can get the engine type off the block.

Id doesnt need to go to a specialist yet, if i couldnt afford the car i wouldnt have bought it. No point in me spending money that i dont need to when there are some nice people out there willing to give me some advice i have taken a picture and will stick it on later, its just the pipes that i get confused with

Right, although a little different to the one that i posted, come to that, totally different from any i've seen.
In your picture, in the bottom lefthand corner, you can see part of another unit. Which i think/hope is the MAP sensor, can you also post a picture of that?
I'm going to treat it the same as mine.
Your #2 is to the turbo. As in my picture #2
Your #3 is to the actuator. As in my picture #3
your #4 to resonator box.
Just as in the pictures i posted yesterday.
Then #1 then, i think, loops down to the unit in the bottom lefthand corner. But i need to see the unit first.
