uk turbo, no power HELP!!!
im needing some help, i have a 1996 uk turbo estate (i know stupid for buying uk model) its been fitted with 3" turbo back exhaust and dump valve.
right to the problem. when ever i try to open it up it keeps cutting out and "splootering" best way i can think to describe it. it boosts briefly then dies, it still reves up but dont have boost. i fitted a boost guage today and noticed once it hits 0.5 psi it cuts and plays up but when it ticks over it sits at less than -0.5 is that right?
im new to impreza engines i have no problem doin the job to fix but just have no idea whats wrong with it. i replaced 4 coils fuel filter plugs the lot just hit a wall with what to do.
and advice would be much help

your car should be runing fine, untill you give it some beans.
if slowly powering, it should work.
the bosch plugs are not for turbos motors.
i did this when i first got my scoob, years ago

its all down to elimination, i suspect the plugs.
you said you changed the coils, id have said check them first
then the boost hoses, check for blockages
then after that, the boost celanoid ect.
get them plugs done, 0.7mm and see who that does mate.

Get ngk's= pfr6 or ngk's= pfr7. Stick them in exactly how they come out the box, no need to touch the gap and if its no better clean the boost solinoid with some brake cleaner and then give it a spray of wd40. Is your solinoid a 2 port or a 3 port, if its the 2 port you should get a 3 port and put it in as it controls boost alot better..

erm, yes do check the distence.
and to use a 3 ort if fitted with a 2, you need a remap to work.
he will have a 3 port, being a 96 inpreza, 7bs are only needed for high boost aplications. not a standard set up, the only differnce form the 2, is they run cooler.
ive had a lot of sets of these plugs, and it is still advisable to check the spacing, for optimum performance

a maf sensor goes can do this. but the main issue if stalling.
same as if the car struggles to start, the course is the coolent temp sensor.
i still recon, once them plugs are changed, the car will run better
hope he puts up what the out come is.
dont want to put any info out, as scoobs are very tempamental.
but i've had a lot of issues with mine, and thats called exsperence as ive managed to solve everyone, and got loads of advice from scoobynet

What make of dump valve do you have fitted , as these can be prone to give the symptoms that you have listed, when the springs start to weaken. Might be worth buying a std recirc and giving that a go.You can get one for less than £20.00 and it might be an easy fix.
Also nothing wrong with buying a uk model as you dont have the worry about using uk fuel, and the parts are more readily available too, along with cheaper insurance. With a few sensible mods you can make it as faster than a std sti

im goin to torch this ****in car soon!!!!!
i still cant get car to run right, if anything was wee spot of luck with waste gate but went back t usual now if not worse and still cant get any where with it. more symptems happenin now. when sittin still reve it and hold it and it keeps cuttin back and not firen right stutters when trying to hold reves above idle. its gettin to point im struggelin to overtake a tractor. go to pull out and overtake and cuts out power and stutters. as soon as you go over 0.5 boost it plays up. its drivin me bonkers and no garage round me is helpin. changing dump valve never done a thing.
possible things im thinkin off
turbo be buggred?
acctuator?
timming?
cound havin straight through be doin it?
intercooler blocked?
injectors?
any help would be good help, dont have space in my garage at moment to work on it as it got burned down last week with all my tools in it. (fathers wiren skills)
cheers

I'd deffo check the timing, just to rule it out for peace of mind. Ive heard of some belts being 1 or 2 teeth out, and still running but very badly.
Is there any smoke coming from the car? Maybe try having the compression checked aswell to rule out engine damage.

£250 just to have a look id avoid if i was you. One thing ive learnt since i bought my impreza is that every garage things you have pots of money and thus try and shaft you every chance they get. I only take mine to subaru specialists now. Are you loosing water at all?

If you have water spurting from the expansion tank then im sure that means you have a head gasket issue. Dont quote me on that though, cause im pretty new to subarus. Try doing a search for it. Other than that, check all boost hoses and pipes for leaks. A pin hole can cause loads of problems.
Hope you get to the bottom of it mate
