APEXI ACTUATOR CONTROLLER ---- BANG ----
Hey everyone,
I have a impreza turbo 2000 and it is very jerky under full throttle.
It is fitted with the apexi avcr controller and i couldnt help but **** around with it.
My setting A is set at 1 bar boost and 40% Duty.
I read the manual and bein a young typical scooby newbie i set the boost to 2 bar and the Duty to 100%. It was fookin quick lol but as u may expect with one almighty BANG it blew my samco hose straight off the end of the alloy charge carrier
There are some very helpful people on this site so i am wondering what u guys are setting your Controllers at so i can see what is suitable.
Also what sort of things could be causing the jerks????
Looking forward to ur replies

Take it to a local mapper and get them to set up the avcr on a rr that's what I did when I had a avcr fitted to one of my old cars. As a boost controller the avcr is quite hard to set up there is a lot more to it that just set the duty and boost level.
The jerk sound like boost surge from the actuator opening and closing as it cant cope with the boost being chucked at it.
But defo take to a local tuner or travel if you have to or it could all end in tears and cost £££££££'s

Ok mate just a case of staying off the boost then till i can afford to do so.
can you remember how much this costs?
Just found that the drivers side header pipe from the exhaust manifold is completely shafted. It isnt even attached at either end anymore so technicaly is no longer part of my car lol
ill try to upload a picture to show you.

as shown in the picture above the left hand section is completely free from the rest of the manifold. it wobbles freely im thinking that this cant be helping the jerking problem.
Would this affect the boost?

that is your up pipe.
if it is that lose, then exhaust gasses will be leaking out and in turn will not be spinning up your turbo, then you will have less boost.
i would get it fixed asap. maybe needs new bolts of it is not broken, you should be able to pick up a set of standard exhaust headers fairly cheap.

The wrapped up-pipe on offer sounds the best option and will help keep under bonnet temps down..

From the sound of all the things your finding wrong with it yourself you could do with taking it to a local Subaru specialist and getting them to give it a good once over and a pos health check dont know what that would cost but could save you some money in the future.
I had mine checked over as soon as I got it just to put my mind at ease really found a few little things that needed doing from having it looked at.
