Which Panel Filter
i have a MY05 STi PPP and want to change the air filter...dont want to go down the induction route, so what panel filter would folks recommend that aint gonna oil up the MAF? had a green before...bit quiet...had a k&n but not on a scooby and that gives a nice induction sound.

I have always used K&N on all my cars and have always been great
Don't read to much into the oiling thing as this has never been an issue if done properly (very simple you clean filter then spray a touch of oil on the filter done!)

Neither or any really, your car was/is mapped for the standard filter, changing probably wont benefit you at all, you "may" gain 1bhp, it wont be high anyway and probably not that noticable.
Now on a standard ECU you will probably notice it more, but not on a PPP'd one, they tested it with an upgraded one and the standard one as they were going to upgrade if there was any gains, so hence you see your car without an upgraded one

That boggo rubbish paper one is what the STI was originally mapped with do a search for MikeWood, ex prodrive, he helped in the developement of the PPP for your car, what I quoted is what he said

+1 for K & N ,bought my 1st one for a 2.0 ltr S capri in 1986,and have used a K & n filter in every car i have bought since.A dirty K & N will allow more air in to your airbox/inlet than a brand new o/e paper element. It wont give you a mega power increase, but you wont need to change it for a long time.

...and i have gone for a K&N. regards the standard filter etc mentioned by Tony above...my last sti had a red filter in it but looked standard to me, whereas this one has a very simple paper jobbie. i am sure the K&N won't add any power...not after more tbh, but might get a little induction roar and wont have to replace it. cheers for the advice and recommendations.

K&N filters are great, re-usable, good air flow etc, the only possible down side is people often apply to much oil after cleaning, this in turn can cause MAF problems.
As for differences between all the various panels on thr market I don't think any difference would be large enough to measure.
I'm currently using a HKS item, cheap, good quality can't really fault it plus no potential oiling issues, If I'm been picky you can't clean and re-use but they are cheap enough to replace anyway.
