When you cleaned it, you may have disturbed the crank sensor. Or water may have shorted it? Just a stab in the dark...

First though, try liberally spraying all the ignition system's HT leads and coilpack with WD40 - just to eradiacte any shorting because of all the moisture from when you cleaned it.

Crank sensor is directly above the crank pully, underneath the alternator, on the top of the engine block. There's a plastic electrical connector to it.

This sounds like a earth problem mate id check all the engine/body connections for loose or corroded ones.

Thought something like that would have been the case... No smoke without fire as they say (that's an ironic turn of phrase lol)
