Default check engine light

i have a wrx sti version 2 the check engine light has started coming on

any ideas and does my model have the green and black plugs to check under the dash

If running the std ECU then yes your Impreza will have these connectors, its just the black single pin ones you will need though.

where are they located ? and are these the one you join together and count the flashes of the check engine light to get fault codes ?

They are located under the dash on the drivers side (look up wher the pedals are) you should see the black and green connectors hanging down out of the loom, with th ignition off connect the black ones only then turn the ignition to the on position (dash lights on engine off) and the CEL will flash. slow = x10 and fast = x1 so for example 2 slow and 6 fast = 26.

Somewhere around your steering column, may be need a torch to find them or remove the lower dash cover. Full instructios here

thanks guys ill go have a look now

did have a quick look last night but couldnt see them i read somewhere that only certain model years had these green and black connectors

can i confirm my sti version 2 will have the connectors it a 1995 / 96 model with gc8c4ed model which is sti version 2

i have now connected the wires its giving me a code of 22 knock sensor i think

where is it located ?

i had the intercooler of on friday replacing the hose clips is it near there ?

Its bolted to the block under the throttle body, access is way easier with the intercooler off.

is there a wire on it ? could i have knocked it off or damaged the connection wire when i had the intercooler off on friday ?

Possibly.


Check that its securing bolt is tight and also all its wiring and connectors. If you can't find anything loose, disconnected or broken wires then it's probably a new sensor needed

found it

bolt is tight cables and connections seem good

i guess its a new sensor then

wheres best place to buy and are they model specific

car is 1995 version 2 sti

Yeah they are model specific. I got mine off ebay £40 new with a years warrenty. Could try the for sale section on here for a used one
