Default Max boost on standard sti pistons with td05-20g ?

I've got a version 4 type-r with a td05-20g that has apparently been mapped by andy forest to a "safe" 340bhp approx at 1.2 bar.

I've fitted an avc-r to it now and will be getting it mapped and was wondering if 1.2 bar is too conservative or can I eek some more out of it.

Car has unknown pistons, injectors and clutch so take it as they're standard, power fc, walbro, standard tmic, fpr, equal length headers & full decat 3" exhaust

anybody else running similar setups?

Thanks

You should be ok for some more, but watch out for gearbox.

I've never launched it / full bore off the mark and I'm generally mechanically sympathetic to my cars so hopefully gearbox won't give up the ghost

The standard rods wont take more than 1.65 bar, the pistons are pretty good and will handle this.

Your better off with a smaller turbo and a fmic, power wise, I would not go much further than your 340bhp, these cars have been known to let go at less power than this, the rods are the weakest point in the engine and yours are the same as the ones in every turbocharged 2ltr impreza of that year.
The 20g is a horrid turbo for your car, go for drivability, upgrade the brakes, suspension etc and have a nicer car to drive

Swapping the 20g for an 18g and a newage tmic would be the way I would go.

I ran a 20g on a 2.0 STI engine for 20k @ 1.6 bar (circa 380bhp), sold car to Paul and Liz @ Zen the 20g was replaced later with a VF34 (made circa 360bhp on that) iirc and car now lives with another member on here and as far as I know is still going strong.

Story goes, treat them with respect and service regularly and they will last fine.

Was that Liz's black one? She still got that - or just her Fiat now?

Nope, 550 cc injectors, AP clutch, front mount. Head gaskets were standard, there are no issues running standard gaskets at that level.

Total of 30k on a standard rebuild when I sold it.

And whilst I am at it my wagon I recently sold had a 60k STI engine when I got it, I was running this @ 1.5bar with a MD304 then a RCM 400 ! Engine happily put 18k on at that level and had never been opened !

Too many scare stories on here and I don't usually bother replying but I have actual experience and don't just regurgitate hearsay. (That is no dig at any individual, just fact)

Yes, had the privilege of a passenger ride in that when I was picked up from Wellingborough station, for when collecting my previous WRX after its rebuild.

That black car flew.

As Banny mentioned 1.65b seems the safest limit.
