2nd opinion plz???
IMO, a magnetic sump plug is only worth fitting to an engine sump for the break in period of a new motor, to catch any tiny pieces of swarf that may (but should not) be present in a freshly built engine. If you start to trap magnetic swarf on a sump plug, part way through an engine's lifetime, then it's in serious trouble anyway. - Regular oil, and more importantly, oil filter changes will remove any (not just magnetic) foreign objects that are larger than the micron rated filtration level of the oil filter that's been fitted.
Magnets on gearbox and rear diff drain plugs are a different story, it's not uncommon to see a paste like swarf build up on them. - Subaru fit them as standard anyway
