Default What on earth is this?

What is this rubber mounted casing on the rear subframe, between the outrigger bushings and the diff? I have one on both sides of the car and they dont appear to do much...

Thanks,

if you are referring to the rusty round counter weight riveted to the outrigger then it was a mod to reduce vibration, I am sure it was a dealer re-call to begin with,

Am I likely to notice any difference if I remove it? I have just poly bushed it anyway so i'm not concerned too much with road noise, so long as it isn't excessive such that I require ear defenders. Thanks
