Mapped Ecutek ecu swap
I've bought a standard uk tubo Impreza needing work.
I had planned on breaking up but toying with the option of fixing it and using it to go to work and back but I'd want more horses.
I didnt pay much for it so Id want to mod it as cheaply as possible.
Would it be safe to buy a mildly mapped ecu, say, mapped for a full stainless turbo back system, walbro, standard td04 and standard 440's and plug it in?
I have the stainless on it and could fit a walbro.
Obviously in an ideal world I should get the ecu mapped for the specific car but as I said, it didnt cost me much so I'd want to do it as cheap as possible.

Even if you fitted the mapped ecu in your car no guarantee it would run sufficiently,as you can have 2 identical cars with the same mods and one will make more power than the next one. When a mapper maps the ecu ,he does it for the specific car.
When i had my 1999 uk turbo mapped it made 317 bhp, when i bought my 2000uk turbo, i took all the parts off my old car and fitted them on the newer one which i had bought. When i took my new car to be mapped the 1st thing the mapper noticed after hooking it up to the laptop was the car was running really rich, which would have caused me problems in the future ,had i not took it to have the map tweaked.
My advice dont try and doit on the cheap, i have bought some quality items off ebay by looking around and choosing what i buy for example :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Afterburner vortex
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=150476956130
std wrx backbox
But when it comes to mapping your car ,save up untill you have enough money then get a reputable mapper to map it,or possibly consider a prodrive performance ecu ,which is basically a plug & go which will enhance the power buy 30 - 40 bhp and improve torque and can be picked up for £200 - £300 imho

tried it with my old ecutek'd ecu that i sold before i went autronics, identicle car, age, simnilar milage, de-cat and panel filter on both, even same colour, ran rich on mine, dangerously lean on his (tried fitting it at a rr day to test to see if it worked). if you by one due to the license it will need mapping anyway

I've had Andy Forrest map a couple of my past Imprezas, both ended up well over 300bhp.
If I had to pay for it to get mapped, I'd feel required to put a bigger turbo on it, then the clutch would need replacing, then a cheap car isnt cheap anymore
