cool thanks - will i be able to drain the majority of the water through the drain on the rad, or will i need to disconnect a couple of hoses as well?
A guy at work seemed to think that scoob's were hard to bleed, and that theres some bleed valves either side of the engine?!
I wasnt aware of this and just presumed it was pretty standard method for bleeding the coolant on these.....read thru a brief guide on here too and saw no mentioned of any bleed valves or comments of people struggling when bleeding the system??

best to disconnect the bottom hose and let it drain. the block side will take a while to drain off fully. the tap on the rad is too high.
the trick to avoid air locks its to fill the system VERY VERY slowley so that it can burp.
glug it in and you will have overheating problems.

Sorry to jump in here - anymone know if the OAT stuff is OK to use ? the Red/Orange colour stuff ??
The stuff I have used is almost fluorescent pink. It came from a motor factors and I specifically asked for one with a corrosion inhibitor and for an alloy engine.
They only sell the one type now, so the one I have is OK, it's made by Carplan, iirc.
To avoid airlocks, I was taught to remove the largest, rearmost hose from the top of the water tank, (the one where there is a pressure cap), shove a funnel down it, and fill S L O W L Y through that, avoiding it glugging. When it fills as far as the top of that tank, replace hose, top up there and at overflow tank, run car until hot with cap OFF, then fit cap and drive it round the block. Allow to cool and check both levels again.

i got lots of red sludge, all round rad cap and all over inside of system. i had flushed system first so not sure what was goin on.
i then changed to the comma blue and it was fine. still fine a year on.

Yuck sounds nasty that
Noticed the Halfords advanced OAT was selling in 2 versions, one for cars made after 1998 and another for the ones made before this date
also formulated for aluminium engines.
