Best place for a recon engine
Guys,
97 WRX, overflow bottle is overflowing so looks like I now know where my water was going.
What do you suggest, buying a recon engine and where from?
Put an STI lump in but wouldnt I have to change airflow meter etc?
Money IS an issue, cant afford to spend thousands sadly.

Thanks guys. Not overly keen on using powerstation, went there a few years back for rolling road and variable boost set up. They charged me over £400 including a new MAF but when my problem returned (wasnt the MAF in the first place) they werent to interested.

Do you know what the issue is with your car? Is it head gasket? really you need to prove the problem first, it wont be cheap either, prices will be around the 800 quid mark for a head gasket replacement (if done properly), and avoid buying 2nd hand engines, too many monkeys selling dodgy ones (SMR for instance http://www.smrengines.com/about.html) so avoid this one or anything even remotely associated with this company, its amazing what gunk and silver paint do to "recondition" your engine just to be left with a huge bill when it lets go/has hg issues etc.

Thanks very much Tony, appreciate the warning. I will confirm it first obviously but Im just looking at worst case at the moment. The overflow is overflowing and getting through a tank per 100 miles is a considerable leak.

API David gives unconditional advice - phone him first, it'll help get your head together.
He also does 'economical engine repairs', which, depending on what needs doing, will be around c.£1,800+VAT.
If it turns out to be just an HG, then I think his current menu price for that is c.£900+VAT - includes STi all-metal HGs. (That's if your heads are okay and can be true'd up with the lightest of skims).
I'd defo get repairs done by API, rather than risk a secondhand lump of unknown history....

Classic headgasket symtoms for a scoob. Gasses escape from cylinder into coolant pressurising & forcing coolant out of the overflow. If the engine is good otherwise I'd repair instead of replacing.
