Default is this coolant ok?

i want to change the coolant on my blob wrx, is this stuff ok to use?

I went to my local subaru garage but they said they dont sell coolant as they onlyorder it in large quantities, but that a 50/50 mix of green is what i need...

cool thanks - will i be able to drain the majority of the water through the drain on the rad, or will i need to disconnect a couple of hoses as well?

A guy at work seemed to think that scoob's were hard to bleed, and that theres some bleed valves either side of the engine?!

I wasnt aware of this and just presumed it was pretty standard method for bleeding the coolant on these.....read thru a brief guide on here too and saw no mentioned of any bleed valves or comments of people struggling when bleeding the system??

best to disconnect the bottom hose and let it drain. the block side will take a while to drain off fully. the tap on the rad is too high.
the trick to avoid air locks its to fill the system VERY VERY slowley so that it can burp.
glug it in and you will have overheating problems.

The stuff I have used is almost fluorescent pink. It came from a motor factors and I specifically asked for one with a corrosion inhibitor and for an alloy engine.

They only sell the one type now, so the one I have is OK, it's made by Carplan, iirc.

To avoid airlocks, I was taught to remove the largest, rearmost hose from the top of the water tank, (the one where there is a pressure cap), shove a funnel down it, and fill S L O W L Y through that, avoiding it glugging. When it fills as far as the top of that tank, replace hose, top up there and at overflow tank, run car until hot with cap OFF, then fit cap and drive it round the block. Allow to cool and check both levels again.

Yuck sounds nasty that Noticed the Halfords advanced OAT was selling in 2 versions, one for cars made after 1998 and another for the ones made before this date also formulated for aluminium engines.

I believe its good practice never to mix between two colours, so try and stick with what you already have in or flush and replace.

It will be, mixing IIRC is not recommended but there isn't enough to react significantly after a quick flush. I have gone for Motul Orange and will be flushing first to make sure the 'secret recipe we only buy in bulk' subaru stuff doesn't object

Some muppet specialist I could name put OAT without flushing in my classic and it went skanky ! nevermind live and learn.
