blanking off bov on a td04??????
I have tried to find a answer to this question ,
some say yes the td04 is the turbo to do it with and have run their cars for years with no problems.
Others say dont do as the turbo cant handle it and you will kill the engine???????
Also by blanking it off what benifits would it have ,other than sounding nice?????

Theoretically the TD series of tubs are much stronger than the VF22/23/24/28/29 i.e. pre-VF30.
But you have to factor in that the TD04 is quite a small, lively tub i.e. highly strung little thing. So, couple that with its age - anything between about 8 years of age (if from a late Bugeye WRX) and 18yo! (if from the very 1st WRX Wagon) - then is it really worth subjecting it to the stress of the boost charge going back through it? I, personally, think not. It's not as if you're gaining bhp or anything - just getting some weird turbo chatter noise....

You'd defo need a remap - the TD05H is a bigger turbo (capable of 340+ after a remap with supporting mods, if lucky).
I take it you have a MY98 UK car with the TD04 then? (A JDM MY98 car would have a VF22 or VF23. Or possibly a VF24 - basically dependent on what Subaru had lying around in their parts bin at the time, truth be told).
So because no MY98 was ever fitted with a TD05H, then there's not even an OEM MY98 ECU that you could swap over at the same time for a painless conversion. You'd therefore also need something like a Apexi PFC or Simtek mapped for your TD05H conv./any other supp. mods...... Big bucks all told.

Oh hold on, I'm being thick!
Despite you saying you have an import, you obviously have a Wagon anyway! Sorry about that.
I might be wrong, but I think even the MY97/98 WRX wagon's do indeed have a TD04 - can't remember TBH.
But yeah, take a pic of the turbo's compressor cover showing the info of the model of it. That way we'll be able to see what's actually fitted and then we'll go from there....
