Default Air lock or Head gasket?

OK ive just about had enough...

Just fitted a new forged engine into my MY99 impreza, it a 2.1 stroker.I had the builder source me some heads too.The heads have been presure tested de-coked and fitted to the short motor with cosworth gaskets.I fitted the engine last weekend. After fitting the motor ive had a nightmare bleeding the cooling system, the top hose was hot, the bottom cold.I fitted a new thermistat but had the same problem. After talking to my mapper he said it would be a massive air lock, ive finaly got it so the top hose is hot and the bottom one too BUT after going for a run both top and bottom hoses feel solid/pressurized but not distorted, do u think i still have an air lock or has a head gasket has gone?.

If the bottom hose is hot too, I reckon you're okay. Does the heater blow hot and is your temp gauge normal at the same time?

Bottom hose goes stone cold when proper airlocked.

Cooling system is supposed to be pressurised when hot, so firm pipes, alone, are not an indicator of a problem. In fact, it'd be an indicator of a problem if the hoses weren't hard immediately after switching off.

Is coolant (and/or air bubbles) p*****g out of the overflow by the battery? If not, and provided everything else looks good, chances are things are fine.
