Default Original Dump Valve help for noob

Hi all first post here after just buying an 04 wrx sti uk, the car only has 44k on and has just had its cam belt service done and is standard apart from back box and VTA dump valve.

I have been scouring the forum to see what I can do on a budget and seems on an sti uk getting a green panel filter de cat centre pipe and a walbro 255 pump then a remap should get me a safe 320 bhp approx. Does that sound right?

Also any threads with a search for BOV or VTA says get rid! I have bought a standard fit item 2nd hand off ebay it looks fine but is there any way to check it before fitting it?

I also seem to have started getting the fellow subaru owners passing wave. Is that normal or was I just looking good that day!

hi mate

i would ditch the vta not needed until high power

3 inch decat/panel filtet/spark plugs/255 fuel pump (maybe sports cat)

with the decat you should be looking at more like 340

was the 2nd hand one meant for a 2002 onwards impreza

yes mate thats totally normal just a pita when the dont wave back and you look like a tit

hope this helps

steve

from a 2006, i have actually fitted it and the car seems to drive fine less notchy than with the VTA valve. The only thing that bothered me was I could not push the piston in it. Is that normal?

yeah mate thats normal you shouldnt be able to push the piston

2006 is fine

out of curiousity what vta was it

good make if you ever want a vta is forge

it will be less notchy compared to the vta you might be getting better throttle response aswell

i would stick with the oem until some serious mods are done

steve

The VTA dump valve that was on is forge and I shall most likely be keeping it to use maybe another time. Annoyingly at the same time as putting the OEM item on my exhaust has developed a horrible rattle but I'm going to put that down to coincidence!
