Default tyre fitment

looking at buying some wheels that don't come with tyres, but i have nearly new tyre on my wheels now & unsure if they would fit these new wheels, they are 17x7j which i'm unsure on the 7j means, & the tyres on mine at the moment are 205/40/17. any ideals if they will fit or do i need new tyres???

cheers
Darren
