Default Smoking...

Evening all

Unfortunately when i started my car yesterday and again today i noticed blue smoke on start up and when i went to the back of the car it smells of oil

the smoke clears after a few seconds and doesnt smoke whilse driving or under boost

I replaced the engine about 2 months ago and i checked the turbo and there was no play in the shafts and spun freely.. but did notice there was a crack by the waste gate blade on the exhaust side could this be causing it or is the turbo on it was out completely?

Thanks

Rhys

depends how handy you are with a spanner heads off job.I ran mine like that for a bit as its oil seeping down past the seals over time then when you start it the oil gets burnt off hence the smoke on start up.
Thats my opinion on the info you have given plus when its a turbo going they tend to just let go rather than go slowly..

I agree it could well be the oil stem seals, it's not the end of the world if it is the stem seals, I had this problem a million times on my old XR2i LOL only £100 main dealer fix LOL

is it a forged engine ? as some forged engines do give a little puff of smoke somtimes as it's down to pistons but also as said it could be valve seals, any oil breathers blocked ?

if it is stem seals the engine will need to come out and heads off

hope you get it sorted mate

LOL nope, if the stem seals are leaking then changing the turbo isn't going to fix this............... Unless you take the engine out at the same time and replace the valve seals!!!

Plus a VF35 would require a remap!

If it's old oil in the CAT you would expect it to burn off all the time untill it is all gone, not just when the engine is first turned on..... I would have thought.

I let my drive my car and was on a private road giving it some and getting the back end out.. then it started knocking at low revs, so built a new engine with new crank, pistons and rings, acl bearing etc.. and new oil pump and had a new block, so we just swapped it all over and new gaskets etc. this was nearly 2 months ago now and has just started doing it and have now covered 2100 miles on it. what damage will / can it cause?

The only real damage you can do is kncaker the seal completely and **** oil snoke out of your exhaust as it burns off as far as I'm aware.... Not ideal.

It's not soemthing you will need to address right now to the point you shouldn't drive the car but you should look at it sooner rather than later mate, if nothing else it will cost you a fortune to keep putting decent oil in it lol
