Hi all,

now the dredded insurance renewals all paid up £1504.00, its time to look for a new turbo, ive been told to go for the vf43 as im looking 350+bhp or there abouts but there seems to be a few others that are popular too.

thoughts please or what do you have and figures reached.

thanks

what are your supporting mods?

this was sent to me a few years back from a well known mapper:

All in my personal opinion and experience! Power figures are approx maximums for a car with everything else optimised.

VF22 - 350-370bhp but laggy and v.fragile, doesn't make good torque.
VF23 - 330-350bhp, in between vf22 and vf24-29, nice smooth, good topend.
VF24 - 320-340bhp, spools great tails off a bit top end
VF28 - see VF24
VF29 - see VF24
VF30 - 340-360bhp, similar to VF23 makes more torque
VF34 - 350-370bhp, similar to VF30 but stronger thoughout - best VF IMHO.
VF35 - 330-340bhp, excellent spoolup, good torque, weak topend unless everything else is perfect.
TD05-16G - 340-360bhp - I had 383bhp and 369lbft on my own car at Prosport, tough as old boots spools well with fantastic torque.
TD05-big16 - 350-370bhp - as 16G but more topend.
TD05-18G - 360-380bhp - more of the above IMHO the best turbo for a 2.0 road car!
TD05-20G - 380-400bhp - looses out on torque but get more topend on a STi with 8K rev limit.
MD321H - NOT L/M/S/T 321H - 400bhp.

guys bit of advice....
im buying a P1 thats 400+ bhp. equal length headers, decatted, forged, etc
but its running a vf22 roller bearing turbo.
reading the above it says that these turbos are fragile and only suitable to less than 400bhp. will the turbo last? will the turbo last if i get anti lag mapped!?
cheers..

do you have a power graph to prove 'said' power level? that's high for a vf22... and personally no i don't think it would last a week with anti lag. you need at least a billet comp wheeled turbo to last a bit longer if you want anti lag

Nothing wrong with a vf34 and easy to pick up, on the other hand i have just had one of harveys td05 18G's mapped up and its amazing... would be even better on a 2.5 . depends what you wanna pay realy

The IHI VF35 would be my choice.

Insane spool, strong and heaps of potential.

It has been put down as a 330-340bhp turbo (which it may be out of the box) but it can reach 370bhp+.

Cheers Iain

Thats a neat guide where did you get hold of it?

Edit - I just read on your post you got this from a mapper.
