Default engine management light on after bump start

Good morning people , my 2004 wrx sti had been sat in the garage for 6 weeks , came to start it and the battery was dead , got the old jump leads on and away. Took it for a run and went to my brothers a short journey , but again had to get the jump leads on to get home but after starting off my brothers Vectra, the management light on my scooby came on!!! Took the battery off at home and charged it!! I shorted the two terminals on the car with the battery off and left it over night. This morning battery is back on after charge car starts fine and running smooth , light still on !!!! How do I re set or could I have problems ???

Ben

yes i have heard that too,if you have to use them try fitting live jump lead to the live terminal (obviously)and earth it to the car via a bolt on strut or similar, someone will most likely rubbish this idea but its what ive been told helps prevent spiking car.

Only way to do a reset on a newage is to use either a hand-held diagnostic device that clears codes or someone with a laptop, the right software, and ODB cable.

Thanks everyone , well I drove the car to my friends today about 25 miles or so. When I came to go home the engine management light went off as normal. So so far so good looks like it has reset it's self.

Yes using jump leads can cause spikes, easiest way of reducing the risk is very simple put your side lights on. It just takes the edge off the voltage and any spike would take the route of least resistance.
