Smile Induction kit fitted on blob eye but occasional dip in power

Just fitted an induction kit to the scooby (03 blob eye), took it out for a run and noticed on first start it was idling up and down the revs a bit more rough ( +- 150 ish) than normal. Went out for a spin and noticed that at the 5500 plus rev range i'd occasionally (being about 20% of the time) get a momentary dip in the power mainly for a second at the most. The induction kit is the first and only performance mod on the car.

Didn't see anything on the search, and I've read mixed things on induction kits on stock setups, over all it sounded nice and appeared to come on stronger 4000+ rpm. Picked it up from the folks at revolution motor sports (link) for cheap.

Thoughts welcome, forum already saved my **** when I put the pipe on backwards and the first time I started her up she wouldn't make it to an idle!

Lol yeah definately a possibility, I hoping it'd go away after returning to stock or I've then mucked something up!

The std airbox is good for over 350bhp, (with a panel filter)
Absolutely no need to change it IMO.
As you have found out (probably) it messes with the readings from the MAF sensor and therefore messes with the map in the ECU giving you incorrect timing and fuelling.

...as I go and fish the dirty panel filter out of the trash...first time with a turbo car, in my previous N/As they just seemed to work without any consequence! thx, appreciate the advise..

Plenty of newage cars running Airbox,s with 400 -420 bhp!

The sole reason im running an IK is due to the FMIC.

If you keep the IK on get the car mapped as it may well be running lean, could turn out costly!

it could be the position of the maf sensor i put a kit on mine and it moved the maf nearer to the hard pipe that goes onto the turbo and it ran very poor! i crafted the standard rubber hose that connected to the maf end of the air box and its been perfect ever since! worth looking at the position of the maf compared to standard position/distance

It will run poor without a remap regardless!

It amazes me how many people fit these kind of mods without looking into it but yet decide not to remap to keep it safe. The save a few quid on mapping i suppose and can use that to hand over to the engine builder when they need new pistons.
