just picked the car up.....hmm bit of info please.
Wow, car is pulling hard now.
Had vf35
Sti pinks
sti top mount with better scoop undertray from aps
decat up pipe
Ecutek remap
Now the car does pull very hard but i have two gripes that i don't know if i should have....
1. The turbo is very laggy, no real boost till i hit 3200rpm, and full boosting at 4200rpm.
Is this normal with the vf35? Got it second hand, so i can't really make a judgement on what it should be making.
2. The turbo is making 1.6bar boost and settling at 1.4ish bar.
I always thought 1.3 was the limit.
Need enlightening from someone in the know!!
Thanks in advance
Matt

as the tuner sourced the up-pipe i would assume its of a suitable size diameter, a friend had his wrx mapped with exactly the same mods and the lag was terrible just didn't seem to want to go, that was down to the up-pipe being to large.

go out side and find out what up-pipe is on it first before you go out and spend on a new up-pipe and a map tweak, have you raised you concerns with your mapper??

He said it's the turbo thats laggy. Clive described it as "this turbo seems to be particularly laggy" He's mapped lots of Subarus so i took his word for it.
Then upon driving home i rang and was told he's on holiday for 10 days to Las Vegas. So i guess i'll have to wait.
Wen't out for a drive to collect the missus from work, and when it's on song- my god....the power!
Just wish i didn't have to wring it's nect to get the ooomph.
I'll check the pipe in the morning as the bloody engine is hotter than a nicked dvd player being flogged by Satan himself!
It looked like a slip joint jobby though. No flexi point or name stamped on it that i could see when i first looked.
You recon i could get a pic of it? or is it buried in the deepest darkest depths of the engine bay???

yeah get a pic if you can as it always helps, try if possible to get pic from underneath if that will get a better view.

VF35 is not a laggy turbo in fairness, classic up-pipe or newage sti job would have been better, most aftermarket up-pipes are way to big and some are cheap dirt that will fall apart.
If your on a budget try a classic or newage sti up-pipe. If you have a few quid get one from Harvey.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Couldn't get a pic of the pipe as it's buried.
However i can hear an...as best as i can describe it "chuffing noise" from under the turbo, so this is really starting to make me think that it's the up pipe thats the problem.
On another note, 1.6 bar and settling at 1.4bar.....is this too high for a standard internal engine?!!

WRX YES ! STI NO !
HTH
dunx
P.S. It does sound like the up-pipe to turbo gasket is "chuffing", you could try nipping down the nuts if you have the tools.

Tell me about it! Paid alot for their work, and this is happening. Not a happy bunny.
Make of gauge Prosport.
Never went over 1.3 bar when Simon mapped it.
Now gauge reads 1.6 bar on WOT and settles to 1.4 maybe 1.5 bar.
I would think fitting the up pipe THEY supplied, that they would also fit the required gaskets e.t.c!
Paid £1220 for this work in total.

Boost on dyno often reads lower ie. It will boost higher than that graph on the road if not tweaked on the road.

They apparently dyno'd it, then double checked on the road.
Think i need to buy a harvey up and take it somewhere to get it finished and then simon to map straight after.
Not easy/cheap i suspect.

Right....update.
Got the car on the ramp this evening and pulled the undertray down.
Started the car up, and with the highly advansed technological break through of fairly liquid, i managed the find the up pipe gaskets leaking badly (looked like a bloody bubble factory)
The gaskets look old, like they re used the old ones.
WTF?? are they for real?!
Think stern words are required for tomorrow.
