Default FMIC opinions

Firstly I would like to say I do not want to start any arguments or upset anybody

I have decided to fit a FMIC to my 96WRX,
Harvey sells the GT2 for £335,
Bob5 (Aztec) sells his FMIC for £180.

I am asking as cash is tight and I will need a remap on top of the above prices

Opinions on which to buy please with good reasons, as we all know cheaper isnt always better but a low price on good kit could be better.

Thanks

Also have an autobahn 88 mate, not fitted yet but looks a quality bit of kit, been told that the gt spec that harvey sells are meant to be the dogs but like you say its price, depends on what power you will be happy to run and as for remap the answer id=s definately yes you will nedd one when fitting a fmic.

Any of them will be a great deal better than your OEM inter-warmer

Obviously Harvey's will be more so, but as always its a compromise between £££/performance.

l'll be VERY surprised if you get anywhere near those figures on an Autobahn 88 set up They are not very good at all. Barely better in flow than an original top mount. They are of course, away from the heat soak area BUT as for getting good airflow through them, forget it.

Harveys do it every time, don't forget you are fitting something that affects the performance of the most expensive part of a Subaru, why take a chance?

Do it once, do it right. Hybrid I/C from Harvey

From what I have seen they sit better too without breaching the lower part of the bumper.

Mine nearly 2 years fitted.

We've been selling the Hybrid FMICs for a few years now with much success.

With the current economic climate, more and more customers are are looking to save money where possible. For anyone on a budget, the FMIC kit we sell at £179.99 does the job well and is sold for up to £300 elsewhere. Used on cars with 500-550bhp.

The Hybrid is always the first choice if budget is not a factor and is indeed good enough for us to supply to a Pro Time Attack winning car.

Bob why is the Hybrid GT2 £170 cheaper via Harvey? That's a massive difference in price!

Let's not get into that Daz but when we are in good stocks, prices are lower and we price match/beat any legitimate company on all products anyhow: http://www.superhids.co.uk/price-promise.html

My bro got 491bhp with autobahn FMIC then coilpacks started to break down, did manage to see over 500 with higher boost before the CP's started to break down. (2.5 engine)

No David I'm not refering to the cheap one.

The GT2 is listed on Bob's site at £499 but I've just had a quote from Harvey for one including pipework, hoses, clamps and brackets for £335 So its £165 cheaper via Harvey, that's some difference!

Original Hybrid on mine: Quality bit of kit; works very well. Chap who fitted mine described the Autobahn one (whichever version was out about 2 and a half years ago) as: "A pile of junk - that would have cost me double in labour charges to fit."

BTW Get David and the lads to fit it. I would suggest you get all the pipework wrapped for sound insulation purposes (or at least make sure the bits where the pipework might come into contact with the car are insulated). The chap I used did a nice job of the fitting, but it was lacking in the above finishing details; it wouldn't have been had APi got it.

Don't have any experience of the GT2 version, I'm sure David can tell you all about it.

You know the bit where the pipe goes into the inner wing? That's one potential contact point, turbo heat shield is another, area near the battery is another. Metal against metal rattle is really annoying!!!

APi put insulating pipe around the hole in the inner wing to prevent any unwanted metal on metal contact. It's touches like those that make all the difference between something feeling aftermarket and OEM, IYSWIM

What utter sh*te about Autobahn being crap.

360 bhp from a VF28 using one(built 2.0L engine 740cc injectors and a power FC) and 452 bhp @1.5bar on a stock 2.5 with a rotated GT30R using one.
Appreciate there may be better more efficient ones but I had no problems whatsoever with mine.

Think they are being given a bad rep by dealers of other makes for no good reason!!

Aaaaah!, but much power would they have made on a proper intercooler That'd be the interesting information....

Apart from having poor air flow the piping is very poor quality and the welds are real pigeon poo thrown on from some distance away.

I have no axe to grind about whichever one, as I am a dealer for neither. We did use an Autobahn once many years ago and the car was rubbish, changed to a Hybrid; instant power, instant transformation, no other mods at all.

We've just binned the Autobahn off Rossi P's car shown elsewhere on here, for a GT2. That now suddenly has woken up from being a very poor performing car to something a bit special. Admittedly, we did a load more work on the car but as for engine mods we really only changed the intercooler set up and rotated the inlet manifold.

David

You would need to saw them up, to see the set up inside. Photo's of the outside won't help as they pretty much look the same externally.

Daz,

The chap who fitted mine was an independent garage with no affiliation to HDi (he didn't supply; he just fitted). He had previously fitted several several autobahns and hybrids. He also owned a very high powered Skyline, which he had modified to that level if memory serves.

He comments pertained to

a) The fit and finish of the Authobahn 88, which he described as "terrible".
b) More importantly, the quality of the core - his exact comments escape me, but he basically said it wasn't a patch on the hybrid!

I also recall a mapper (Bob, if memory serves) saying that his was very surprised at just how well the hybrid performed during mapping, commenting that there was no significant difference between it and about 1ks worth of APS kit. Not sure if any such comparison has ever been made involving the Autobahn....
