Post Service Classic STI scooby 555

i have a classic subaru STi type RA 555 WRC year 2000, im looking on some info of servicing it myself.

Just a pedantic point.... A year 2000 Ltd Edtn STi Type RA would be called "V-Limited", not "555"

What "items" on the service schedule do you want to do yourself?

alright mate its pretty straight forward fella just get to your local dealer and get parts of the reg of the car so there right and u dont end up getting half way through spark plug change only to find out there wrong lol,when changing your plugs take the under tray off if you have 1 and lye on your back under car with 12 mil spanner undo the coil packs and wiggle them out between the engine and chassis and then change plugs in same way only with ratchet and short extension with the apropiate size spark plug socket,then change oil and filter with 10w/40 semi synthetic oil preferibly mobil super[good stuff] then air filter job done,dont touch the brakes or suspension if your unshore its high performance and would be dangerous mate.Ryan

Before you attempt the oill/filter change, you'd do well to do a seach on here using keywords: "oil change". It'll be an eye opener for you......

ok thanks, ive taken it to the garage now anyway, and they guy there is a pro with these cars as he works on alot of them for the rally and stuff. he says 10w 60 fully synthetic is better, he even disagrees with the dealership garages.
(its in the garage because some **** crashed into the back on me and pushed in the bumper not too much damage ) i also asked him to have a look and servicing it.

10w60 isnt better, it will be like treacle in the engine, its 50% thicker at 100 degree's than a 40 weight oil, if he thinks its better then have him go tell subaru that, who dont recommend it for their engines (considering subaru have done more developement on the engine than he has, they are probably in a beter position to say what goes in or not )

Stick with a 10w40 or if you want a fully synthetic, a 5w40 like shell helix ultra.

Are you/him aware of disconnecting the crank sensor, prior to priming the oil system (and obviously after the oil/filter change)?!

Considering he's a Pro that uses the wrong oil then I'd hazard a guess at............... eerrm................NO

Totaly agree mate , been with subaru dealer for years 10,40 or 5.40 for sti's ....

like the way anyone can be a "pro" these days
