Question ** EGT sender position?

I'm fitting my defi's and have an EGT sensor and wanted to know where to fit the sender?

Before the turbo in the up-pipe or headers?
After the turbo in the down-pipe?

And for the controller there's 4 wires to connect up to the car...

Am I right in thinking =

skinny black one - earth
thick black one - ignition
thick red one - constant power
thin white one - light

I was playing about with the wires and thru trail and error came to the conclusions above, but is that correct??

Hmm a black for ignition that dont sound right....

The BF Version 2 controller is as follows>>

Red - Battery
Orange - Ignition
White - Illumination
Black - Ground

The power and the ground feed should be the same size and you will need a 4amp fuse and holder on the direct feed from the battery.

Hope that helps

The boost guage needs to "T" off your inlet manifold and it can go on any of the vacuum/boost lines coming from the inlet manifold.
Providing your EGT probe is sturdy enough you can locate it in your uppipe using a boss. On New Age cars and those with tubular GT Spec headers it can be located in the boss provided at the collector on the headers.
Are you on ported headers or tubular headers? I cannot remember.
I have uppipes for both tubular and OE ported headers with a boss already installed if you want to go that route but if you have the tubular, unless you are already using the boss at the collector there is no need to swap the uppipe with one for the replacement with boss.
The down side of putting the probe before the turbo is that if the probe end breaks off due to excess EGT it will travel through the turbo and do damage. The advantage of locating it before the turbo is that it tells you that much more because the gas has cooled considerably by the time it reaches the downpipe.
The alternative to the above is that you locate the EGT in the downpipe and drill and weld in a boss for that purpose if the downpipe is not already suupplied with additional bosses to take the probe.
I have special downpipes already made which include additional bosses to take either narrow and wideband Lambda at the same time or one Lambda and one EGT probe adaptor.
Give me a ring Alex today if you want clarification on any of the above. 07860 302020.
As I know you will have one of my uppipes I am happy to do some sort of swap if you are going pre turbo but I have no idea what the DEFI sensor is like.

Thank you both... I'm such an idiot when I was saying which wire was which, it just dawned on me that the wires had joins in them so they werent the originals... dur...

I'll go by the wire guidence from STI_Baly, thank mate

Harvey, got your pm, will give you a bell when I get out of work... as I'm looking to get hold of your up-pipe and headers we could more than likely work something out

Ok all wired up and working well

I need an adaptor for my water temp sensor, but they come in various sizes... 34mm and 38mm etc? Which is the size I need for the top water pipe on MY99 STI?

Also the tiny connectors are missing on my water temp and EGT harnesses... rather than spend £100 on 2 new harnesses, does anyone know a way round it?

Those controller pins are minute... is there any tiny tiny connectors that can be bought from Maplins or somewhere that'll do the job??
