Sorry for sounding thick but ...... what's power coating ?
Hi folks,
I wonder if you can help. I've just managed to get myself a set of standard silver 17" WRX alloys for my 2004 car. I was hoping to get them refurbed and painted gloss black to replace the grey / bronze coloured alloys that I currently have. After speaking to a couple of people they have suggested that I get them powder coated as the finish will be more durable. Without wishing to sound thick, what does this process consist of. If so can anyone help me with these questions ?
Is this the sort of thing you can do to alloys ?
Is there anywhere in the North West ( near Tyldesley in Wigan ) that does this ?
Any idea of how much this would cost per wheel ?
Has anyone done this before and is it worth it, or should I just get someone to paint the wheels gloss black instead ?
Any comments or advice is really appreciated.
Cheers guys and girls !!!

Powder coating is more duarble as there is no solvent involved......the "paint" is a powder which is electrostatically attached to the part before being fired / melted to the surface. The powder can form a thicker layer in nooks and crannies so looks more like a skin than paint.
It will still be shagged by riding it against a kerb though LOL
A well painted and laquered wheel will be fine
Shaun
PS I would steer away from gloss black because it makes the tyres look brown / dirty all the time (unless you use tyre dressing). A good anthracite colour is better IMHO
