A quick question
If i move my battery into the boot as i'd like to free up some space/even out weight, Does it need to be of a certain type? e.g. does it need to be a 'dry type' or can i just relocate my orignal one? - I did do a quick search but could not find an answer.
Cheers in advance.

You can use your original battery as far as I know. A good friend of mine has done that on his type RA. From what I remember from last looking at it the normal battery is situated on his rear passenger side in the boot and is inside a homemade deep battery tray with twin clamps.
If I was going to do it I think I'd get one of those battery boxes just because it would look better imo. Like these; http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Search...=battery%20box

Well i would be locating it in a proper battery box etc, but just wondered about the type of battery itself? As most pics that i have seen, where they relocate the battery from the bay, they seem to also change for a 'gel' type. So is there some rule that you must use them?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Well I just rang my mate to see what light he could shed on it. He did have a normal battery in his boot but now he's changed it to a dry cell that cost him big bucks (£170/180 he thinks).
He said the normal battery was fine in the boot but he's only changed it because if he leaves the car for a few weeks the battery won't go flat as it holds the charge better/longer. It also has much more cranking amp power (for better starting even in extreme cold/hot temps), is lightweight and can be fitted upright or on it's side and will not leak acid even when damaged. Hope that helps

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal if it can vent into the passenger compartment because if it starts overcharging it gives off naughty fumes
It needs to be separated and vented to outside _unless_ it's a sealed one.
however, if you have a firewall/seats separating you I would have thought that was ok. Don't do it in a stripped and open car though.
