Guessing it's just an after-market pipe section with no resonator in it. Same principle as a decat (catalyst delete pipe)? Releases a few more dB but no ponies.
AFAIK: The standard intake takes a feed from under the bonnet above the radiator, feeds that into the inner wing on the driver's side, then back out into the airbox. In the inner wing is the resonator, a large plastic box filled with foam. The delete pipe gives a direct link from the air intake feeding into the wing, to the pipe from the wing into the airbox (which can be seen in the picture above, not connected to anything), removing the resonator box in the process. It is claimed to give a few bhp more, but it's disputed. It increases intake noise a little, since the purpose of the resonator is to dampen that noise. If you've got an apexi induction kit then it's not an issue for you, but you may or may not still be carrying the resonator box around with you if that wasn't removed when the apexi went in. It's not heavy, and a bit of a pain to get out
Jay, you'd probably be better off taking a feed from the bumper area to the pipe that connects to the air box. You'd have to get creative and cut the pipe feeding the airbox though.
Alternatively cut the part circled in the pic, away from the resonator box and cap/block it where it's cut. I'm not sure what the air flow would be like though.
Right this is a job i need to tackle asap. So there's foam inside the resonator? As i need some induction noise.
