Default Clutch or turbo??

I have a 2005 wrx that has lost boost... She idles and drives fine but doesn't pick up. The turbo still sounds like it's spinning and the dump valve still hisses but I also have a smelly clutch.

Would a slippy clutch cause this??

Also the turbo is an uprated one, how do I tell wat it is?

Help please

Depends are you getting a punching under water sensation.
Also how many miles has the clutch done.

If it was the clutch the revs would raise rapidly, but the speed wouldn't.

I'd say you'd 100% be able to tell if it was the clutch slipping.....

Take it on a run and at about 25-30 mph put it in top gear. Then accelerate hard and if it just revs then the clutch is slipping

The dump valve may well be the problem> if its leaking the car wont make any boost.

As above check the clutch first

Drive in top gear at around 30mph then floor the throttle. If revs rise quickly and speed increase is slow the clutch is slipping.

I think you need to rule this out first otherwise its like looking for a needle in a hay stack

right 30mph and 5 th gear the revs dont increase so i can rule the clutch out......however there seems to be a small amount of boost, only slightly, is this a sign that the turbo is on its way out or could it be something more?

Have you checked the obvious thing i.e. boost pipes from turbo compressor... to IC... to TB? Check for loose fittings/splits, etc......

yep all look good, i had a turbo boost pipe split before and it feels nothing like that this time,

kinda at a loose end now, dont wanna spend shed loads on a turbo if its not that, and its a pain to fit but first of alll how do i find out what one i have??

The only real way knowing for sure is positive I.D.-ing it. Can you not shine a light down by the compressor housing? It should say somewhere on it what the model is.

I know (think! lol) that MY01 Bug and MY03 Blob WRX's have the small and lively TD04L... but not sure on a MY05 Hawk (or do you have a late 2005 Blob, anyway?)

Yes, in that case you'll defo have to take a gander for sure.

Unless, in the service history that came with the car, you have the documentation/invoice/receipt for it (from a previous owner who fitted it/had it fitted) of course........
