Default resetting the ecu

Hi is there any other way of resetting the ecu on my version 4 my98 other than the way jolly green monster says on his website, ie connecting the blacka and green wires together, just my car wont start atm which is another problem that i have but i noticed the the CEL is on and seems to be flashing more than one code so rather than check them all wondered if i could reset the ecu and then check the new fault codes that the ecu fires up can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

There is only a number of things that'll stop it starting, have you checked the basics? Air, fuel, spark?

What are the fault codes being reported? You have to solve those before the ECU will reset. Chances are you'll find an explanation for the non-starting once you know what the code(s) are.

what year is it?

some codes will clear just by connecting green and black together and turning ignition on.. as well as battery disconnect for a few minutes as has been said.

run for 5seconds.. maf.. or keycode (if 97/98 uk)
