Default What is the sign of a failed rear wheel bearing ?

Im getting a loud droning sound from the rear drivers side, it starts around 20mph and gets louder the faster I go.
It gets really loud, which actually drowns out the car radio.
With the car jacked up, there is no rocking movement in the wheel though.

Also Ive checked the rear diff and changed the oil to rule out that.

If its that noisy then I'm afraid the hub will be damaged as well. I had a NSR wheel bearing fail and it only made a wooo wooo sound, and it still goosed the hub.

I cant see how the hub can be fecked if there is no play in the wheel, just a noise.
Am I missing something here ?

subarus are notorious for having to have hubs changed when the bearings are gone, you can occasionally get away with getting he new one pressed in but not very often
