Default Headers ...

Chaps.

Got RCM headers on car at mo, trouble is they're not wrapped or coated I'm thinking of getting new headers already coated, taking off current RCM ones & selling them on whilst fitting the new coated ones in order to minimize time that the car is off the road. Giving a free choice what headers would you go for?

Cheers, TX.

RCM are the same as gtspec 2, tomie etc just with different badges on

if you want the best, get them ceramic coated, second to that is heat wrap, it wont last as long, but its a hell of a lot cheaper.

good DEi heat wrap @ around £50/£60

ceramic coating @£quite a few hundred

DEI wrap £55 per roll, 50 foot 2" and you will use 3/4 of it on a set of tubular headers and uppipe.
I have just taken off tubular headers, 2 bolt, the original GT Spec with uppipe and the wrap is still in good condtion. If the wrap is applied properly and is quality wrap like DEI which is the only wrap I use now, it will last for a long time if there is no physical damage from runnover over foreign objects.

Does the ceramic coating last longer ie justify the extra few hundred notes?

So true. They just add there own badge along the lines somewhere and charge extra.

Sure all the GT Spec 2 are made in the same factory and then sent on. Wouldn't be suprised if they are made in Taiwan.

If I had to by my set again I'd pay that little extra for the ceramic coating on the headers.

The reason I stopped using ceramic coating was that in time it flaked off particularly if you were running high EGTs.

i have always wrapped my headers and was considering ceramic coating them, until i saw a set that are on a friends car that are ceramic coated and have flaked off all over.i think i will just continue to drop them off once a year and re wrap them.

bigarf : If you use DEI wrap and apply it correctly, keeping it tight with plenty of wire ties eg on a bend every second wrap and on a straight every third wrap, it will last for years. I just removed a set of two bolt GT from a big power WRX to go on a UK car after five yers. The wrap was "touched up" in two places where there was damge from road debris and is probably good for another couple of years plus.
