Default defi gauges advice please

hi all

the defi gauges on my blob were in there when i bought it which work fine but when i set the max level for the lights to come on( if you now what i mean) it works fine but when i turn the engine off then back on again it resets its self and i have to do it again or the lights flash all the time, is there something wrong with the way there wired up. thanks for any advice.
i hope you can make some sence of this lol.

It sounds as if the wiring is wrong.

Behind the controller should be loads of wires leading to the senders, one for each with tiny multi-pin plugs on each. There should also be one leading to the gauges, which are "daisy-chained" off each other, so one feeds the next, which feeds the next etc.

There is also a bundle of FOUR wires permanently fixed to the control unit.

They are colour coded, and should be connected as follows:

RED: to a PERMANENT live, (this is the one probably wrong.
ORANGE: to a SWITCHED live, eg rear of radio.
WHITE: to the sidelight circuit.
BLACK: to a decent earth.

As mentioned above, the wire proably connected wrong is the red one. If it's NOT connected to a PERMANENT live, the settings will be lost each time you switch off the ignition. You can feed it a live direct from the battery, via an inline blade fuseholder, the latter situated close to the battery, if that is easier?

thanks alcazar you were spot on !!! , what they had done was wired the orange to permanent live and red to switched live so for easyness i just swapped the pins in the plug round and now they work perfectly, as i would of had to dig the dash out to find it , but the box is fastened under the steering wheel so i could get to the plug easily. thanks again buddy your a dime .
