Default converting to slim fans with 2 wire not 3?

i have just put 2 x 12" slimline fans on my 95 sti, there are 3 wires to each fan on the cars loom,
1 - wire
1 + wire for 1st speed for the fan
1 + wire for 2nd speed for the fan
im using the - wire and the 1st speed + wire as the fans only need a - and + to run,
can i connect the 2 positive feeds (1st and 2nd speed for the fans) together or will it do something to the ecu,
thanks, phil.

No need to connect both live feeds> id connect the low speed to both of your new fans and leave the high speed disconected as the fans you have will only run at one speed regardless of what lives you have connected

thanks for replying , i have connected the 1st speed wires but they are on at the slow speed, thats why i wondered if i connected the 2nd speed wire aswell (which makes them a lot faster) will it damage the ecu that tells the fans to come on?

Ok must have a power out put difference then. a better option would be to use one fan on the slow speed option and the second on the high speed. I just dont like the idea of connectiing two wires together.

Or even better you could put a couple of relays in and use the o/e slow/fast wires as trigger wires and then have both fans working as two speed without having any o/e wires joined together. Would be pretty easy to wire up with a decent size inline fuse to protect everything.

i never thought of splitting the fans,i think ill try 1 fast 1 slow, if it cant cope ill hook up a few relays, like you said two wires cant be good, thanks very much turbotits, ha ha.

ooh now then, was there any problems with putting both the wires together or did it run the fans fine on both speeds?

is there any reason your not using the standard fans as they are made for the job and cope with it well as they have the correct cowling .

at the minute your running universal fans that are wired/fitted worse than the factory fit as there not doing the job correctly so in effect running the car hotter all the time with the possibility of doing long term damage in the future .just somethin to think about !
