Default newage wrx rough idel + hesitation. not MAF.

Evening all,

Had rough idling and slight hesitation under load for a while with my 03 WRX. 2 days ago i bought a second hand MAF from a local guy, fitted it and seemed to istantly sort the problem, car ran brilliant...... for 12 hrs.

next day after much driving in and around london its come back

Now as the different MAF made an instant difference, im having trouble believing its that that is now shot and dont fancy spending over £200 just to be confirmed.

I have a constant CEL light which is due to the new decat downpipe (problems were there with standard pipe).

when the CEL first came on i had it plugged in and the only code that appeared was the one regarding the cat missing/defective.

i serviced it with new iridium denso plugs around 4k ago and gapped the plugs, this did not cure or excaserbate the problem. coil packs appear solid.

car is standard bar the KnN panel filter (4k old) and H&S downpipe.

Its being mapped soon so im desperate to get it fixed.... have a walbro on way incase its the fuel pump but all suggestions welcomed.

oh and i noticed today that if i put the aircon on the revs lift a bit and the roughness seems to dissapear or at least ease a bit.

iridium plugs are pre gapped and are not meant to be gapped the traditional feeler blade way..

Hi guys, thanks for replying.

Can the icv be cleaned on these then? thats worth a shot for sure... but er.... where is it?

it doesnt have a DV, its standard bar the filter and downpipe.

should i reset the ecu with the new maf attached?

and would the ecu back off the boost due the cel?

its proving a steep learning curve this japanese stuff....
