Default What options are available on a 2l CDB?

As the title suggests, i'm wondering what sort of options are available and what would probably be the best round.

2.1 stroker kit
bore to 2.2 then have 2.33 stroker kit
bore to 2.5 and have linered etc

Or is it probably best to just sell the CDB and go for a EJ22 CDB and go 2.33?

Cheers

If you can get a 2.2cdb then the 2.33/2.35 is your best bet, or else the 2.1/2.33/2.35 on the block, not cheap but better than going 2.5 or boring out to that on a 2ltr imo

What likely to cheaper, the 2.33 on the EJ22 or all the work carried out on the EJ20?

Cheers

2.1 is the cheapest option without a shadow of a doubt.....plus how much power are you after? what transmission will you be using? what turbo?

And important of all what do you want to do with the car?

A 2.33 will be the better option as your using the standard liners on a 2.2 without adding additional complications and the possibility of the liners dropping after paying silly money to have the machining done.

Sorry i should have been a bit more specific.

I have an STI8 so i already have the stronger 6 speed. Looking to run around 550-600ish possibly even using a bit of meth, say 10-20%.

I know all the other bits that i'm gonna need, twin plate clutch, Simtek, bosch 044 etc etc, just was never 100% on what engine configuration would be best.

So:
2.1 being cheapest and possibly too small an engine for the turbo used to hit 600ish in terms of spool and response
2.33 using EJ22 being the best all rounder but possibly the most expensive
2.5 giving best in terms of spool but worries about the liners

Is that right?

Yep you hit it on the head....although the 2.5 if mapped has been known to handle 600 with no probs....

i would personally say that if those are your set goals then go the 2.33 route and be done with it.....i'm assuming you will be using the current AVCS heads?

Who will be building it for you?

Thinking of Neil from slowboy racing as he's so close to me and when i had a word with him he certainly seemed honest and genuine.

Yeh, was thinking of the AVCS heads but was thinking of buying a second set of AVCS heads so they can go off for porting and possibly 14mm stud conversion while i can still be using the car as i believe the turnaround is a few weeks. Would also help selling my STI8 engine as a whole rather than selling the short block

The one reason i'm trying to find what other options are available to me is that i currently have en EJ20CDB in my possession and wanting to use it in some way. You know the story, guy sees engine, guy buys engine, guy changes his mind.

Think i'm just better off selling it and started over?

I agree in selling it for a nice sum and investing it into a Ej22....i believe Neil from Slowboy also had his 2.33 up for sale....worth a query if your going to him.

good luck
