Default Wagon tailgate rattle MY99

My 99 STI Wagon has a really annoying rattle in the tail gate!!

I have spent hours on it and I’m starting to get all irrational about it. I have refitted the spoiler, rear wiper motor, stripped the brake light and even modified the mechanism!! STILL RATTLES.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHH!

I finally talked a mate into sitting in the back seat while I was driving. Turns out it is the whole tailgate!!! It stops rattling when you put pressure on it from the inside.

Cant see anything to adjust except for a few mm on the catch attached to the car. This helped but it still rattles. No rubber bungs to wind out...

Anyone who owns something other than a Classic wagon need not reply!

Have searched for “rattles” on SN but couldn’t find an answer.

Any ideas???

Cheers.

Default All fixed!

Well I fixed the dam rattles... it was easy in the end. Pix here explain all. I’ll make tidier spacers later – this was just a 10 minute proof of concept.

I reckon I now have the quietest wagon tailgate in the country!!! Yeah.
