Code 23 persistant problem
Hi all,
Been having the check engine light flick up every now n then with a code 23 (MAF sensor) fault, so I went and bought a second hand MAF (probably not a wise move but too cheap to pass on) and it run perfect for 3 weeks.
Until this weekend that is, when out of the blue I had mass power loss, check engine light and then stall all within seconds. I shut the car down, re-started and all was ok??? got home and checked the engine codes only to have a 23 flash at me in morse code
.
Now before I shell out for a £290
replacement could anything else be causing the code at all.
Greatful for any help guys
Cheers

Ha Ha... nice try and wish I could mate, maybe one day.
I'll go over all the vac lines tomorrow.
Just in case it is the MAF, have you got any ideas on where's best to get one from. Only place I could find a new one was Japaneese import car parts for £289???

Kyle, error 23 can normally only be caused by the mass airflow input to the ECU going open or short-circuit. It's possible, under certain circumstances, that an air leak could make the ECU think the input has gone open circuit, but this is unlikely.
Given what you've said about the car suddenly cutting out it's possible that you might have a fault somewhere and that the sensor itself is okay. However, from what you've described, the fact that the car was okay for a few weeks after fitting the second MAF does suggest that's where the problem is.
Under these circumstances, a new one's the only way to be sure - although if I were in your shoes I'd (at least) check the continuity of the loom from sensor to ECU before shelling out. You never know.
