Default Subaru STI Ver2 555 closed deck hatchmarkings

i have a STI Ver.2 Engine removed from a recent imported 555 edition. I wanted to know if it is a closed deck block, i done checks to see if it is by the crank sensor but it does not have any hatchmarkings. it does have cross hatch markings around the heads though.is there any other place to check if it is a CDB. Noting this is a Original STI Version 2 555 engine which are CDB's.

Cross hatching around the oil filter housing is, apparantly, the ONLY guarantee of a CDB.

Hmmm a version 2 would make it a 1996 model year, in which case its probably not a cdb.

Tony

PS why do you want to know if its a cdb or not? its not like your going to run over 500bhp on this engine without spending stupid ammounts, in which case an odb is just as good, and the internals all suck.

Oil gallery below/behind the AC pump going from left to right should be cross hatched, same goes for oil gallery under the turbo. Bell housing on engine side where the starter motor is should have a series of ridges in it.

look at the pictures of the EJ22t block in Skullfudge's project thread here and you can see the hatching on the oil galleries. https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...ect-2-a-9.html

OBD is good for around 500bhp anway mate. Unless you wanted to go way over that sort od figure, then I shouldn't concern yourself about a CDB. Unless of course you want to 'future proof' your self as much as is possible re the block castings...

If it doesn't have hatching in the areas highlighted it isn't a CDB, simple. There are a few other places in addition, but if you've looked where I've pointed out and it's smooth, then look no further it's open deck.
