Default VF37 twinscroll

Hi currently have a 05 plate wrx with the standard TD04 fitted but looking at fitting a VF37 twinscroll.Would this be a direct replacement turbo and are there any advantages to fitting a VF37 over a VF34 ?
Thank you your comments will be appreciated .

i was looking at fitting one of these to my classic

to do it to a classic you need headers and up-pipe ,sump and pick up pipe, in your case i think you will need headers and up -pipe.

you will lose the scooby burble but will gain quick spool, i think the power output is around the same.

Downpipe too - flange is different as well.

See here for how all the gaskets differ from the 'normal' single scroll set-up:-

* Bottom left = TS headers outlet to uppipe inlet
* Right = TS uppipe outlet to turbo inlet
* Top left = TS turbo outlet to d/p inlet

Its more like "how much of my engine do I wish to change to fit a VF37", if you want to replace the downpipe, sump, manifold and turbo then remap then go for it, if you dont then stick to a vf34.

Actually that d/p gasket in the pic above looks like a single scroll one. I thought the twin scroll turbos had a different shaped d/p flange(?)

LOL I think it's just the perspective of the image. See here for a straight-on view of one:-

I've got a VF36 on my car, which is a little better than the VF37 but the level of *rse involved in the conversion is the same.

As the others have said it's not just the expense of the turbo you've got to consider, there's a lot of additional dosh involved in swapping the sump pan and exhaust system around. Will need injectors too, if 05 WRX still has 380s as standard.

If you can pick the twin scroll manifolds and sump up cheapish (as I did) then it's an excellent way forward. Power from the VF37 is probably 20bhp-odd more than you'd get on a VF34, but with much better spool and throttle response. Oh, and as the others have said it sounds completely different.

However in your position, you need to budget up the overall cost of the conversion - inc the labour to fit the sump and exhaust parts where necessary, as well as the remap plus the (probably STi top mount) intercooler. If you're after a simple drop-in turbo replacement this clearly isn't an option. If you just want a big horsepower number then you'd probably get a better dyno readout from putting the money you would've spent on the exhaust bits into a bigger turbo. If you want an excellent roadcar, it's a triffic way to go.
