Default Rear Brake disc on a my00 classic

i have just replaced my discs and pads on the rear, i just took it round the block and it seems to have a rubbing noise, which kinda goes away if i apply the handbrake. as the pads havent worn in yet the handbrake does not work 100% yet,

is this noise normal? as they havent bedding in yet?
or
have a missed out something im meant to do with the handbrake side of things.

cheers

It's quite possible that the disk is touching the back plate in the groove between the drum part and the disk, look at your old disks from the back and see if there is any evidence of rubbing or contact in the recess

Did you re-adjust the handbrake shoes when the new discs were fitted, the ratchet type device at the back of the backing plate/remove the rubber grommet

Did you fit new handbrake shoes as well as the discs/main pads?

Without actually hearing the noise it's clearly impossible for us to tell you with certainty whether it's normal or not.

What we can say is that the handbrake clearance is adjustable via the little gizmo at the bottom of the shoes with the teeth/castellations sticking out round it. You should adjust that so the shoes are just short of contacting the drum prior to fitting.

It's also possible that the shoes are misaligned, although this should sort itself out with a couple of hard applications of the lever. Speaking of which, how many "clicks" can you pull it before the brake feels fully engaged?

or have a missed out something im meant to do with the handbrake side of things.
Again without staring over your shoulder as you did the job it's impossible to know what you have and haven't done.

It's also possible that you've got a bit of rusty cr*p or other debris stuck between the rear face of the disc and the hub, which in turn is causing run-out. As Trev has already said, have a close look at what you've done and see if there's anything obviously rubbing.

ok just had the discs off again everything looks fine, there is no rubbing marks on the discs. the shoes seem to be fine and not touching (when not applied)

could it just be the pads rubbing? as they haven't married up to the disc face yet.

That's the hub and my new disc, the shoes seem to be well within the hub face
